A new axial vision aims to provide a new vision of ourselves and our place in the scheme of things by drawing on and integrating the best of pre-modernity (e.g. the Axial Age and axiality), modernity, postmodernity and 21st century philosophy and metatheory. It takes the empirical findings of science, the rational insights of philosophy, the big picture vision of metatheory and the transrational apprehensions of (the contemplative core of) religion to provide a re-enchanted vision of the cosmos and our integrated place within it. It focuses on the domain of emotions plus the three key breakthrough domains of the Axial Age – cognition, ethics and spirituality – and upgrades them via the advances of modern science, philosophy, therapy/psychotherapy and religion/spirituality.
